1: Ashdown Forest Llama Park. Everyone loves a llama – and at Ash-down Forest Llama Park you can pet them, and even take them for walks! Ideal for families with kids, lots of fun for everyone. Needs to be a decent day weather wise though.
2: Battle Abbey. It looks amazing, it is amazing – and it’s one of the most important places in England for history buffs! Get the kids involved, take a trip out from your cottages South Downs to see the place where the Battle of Hastings ended. The altar of Battle Abbey is the spot where King Harold fell with the arrow in his eye.
3: Pevensey Castle, near Eastbourne. Sussex is full of castles – it was a hot spot in medieval times,Pevensey’s one of the most impressive, and because it’s near Eastbourne you can go from your cottages South Downs and have a day out in the town as well.
4: Eastbourne. Eastbourne is a classic seaside town, all fairgrounds and candy floss. Take the kids for a proper day out, or enjoy a trip down memory lane. If you stay for the evening you’ll find bars and restaurants aplenty – and of course there is always the option of having fish and chips on the seafront!
5: Fishbourne Roman Palace. No cottages South Downs holiday is complete without a slice of history – and what could be more historic than a genuine Roman Palace? Fascinating mosaics, great visitor experience and a real chance to see exactly what the Romans did do for us!
